Transparency survives
A transparent PNG background stays transparent in the SVG — no white box appears behind your logo. The checkerboard in the preview shows exactly what's transparent.

Logo mode, honest color count
For logos and icons, keep Logo mode and set Colors near the number of real colors in the artwork. Extra colors just split clean shapes into fragments.

If the PNG is a screenshot with the logo floating in empty space, crop it tight first — the tracer spends its precision on what's actually in the frame.
Questions, answered
Does PNG transparency survive the conversion?+
Yes. Transparent pixels become empty space in the SVG, not a background shape. What shows as checkerboard in the preview is truly transparent in the downloaded file.
What are the best settings for a PNG logo?+
Logo mode with Colors set close to the logo's real color count (most logos are 2–6) and Detail around 6. If tiny specks appear, lower Detail; if a thin element vanishes, raise it.
Why does my PNG photo look posterized after converting?+
Vectorization redraws the image as flat color regions, so smooth photo gradients become bands. That's inherent to tracing, not a bug — switch to Detailed mode and raise Colors for a closer (but still stylized) result.
Is there a file size or resolution limit?+
No hard limit. Very large PNGs are downscaled to 1600px on the long edge before tracing — the SVG output scales infinitely anyway, so nothing meaningful is lost.
